The Christening Gown

This work repurposes crochet as 'women's work', making a christening gown crocheted from wire. The christening gown, traditionally a flowing dress for a ritual ceremony is in this instance reshaped and remade to signify the strict and firm future to be expected for Woman. Like the corset of past days, the gown forces itself, being not infant- but woman-shaped, beautiful yet embellished with expectation.
