Licentious Ladies

Licentious Ladies is a collection of sixty-seven double-sided female figurines or deities representing the masking of sexuality by women in order to avoid the tyranny of the Male Gaze. The playful exteriors signify the sheathed or clothed woman while their concealed underbellies display their vulvas, speaking to the possibility of woman’s full-bodied erogenous pleasures.

These figurines also portray present-time variations on the time-honoured themes of fertility and procreation related to the Goddess. From the beginning of time, or perhaps even as the Creatrix of Time, the ‘Mother” or female deity has been worshipped as the One from whom all life springs. Ancient cultures made idols and artifacts to ensure Her continuing presence. These tiny ‘dressed up’ female forms are modernized versions of ancient artefacts displaying the enormous potential of fertility and life eternally issuing forth from the womb of women.
